Meet The Drum Teachers

(ALPHABETICAL ORDER)

Adam Zafarese

Adam has been playing drums for 37 years, building a career that has taken him around the world and across Australia multiple times. He has toured internationally with metal band Mortification, gaining extensive live and studio experience along the way.

Over the years, Adam has recorded four albums and five EPs, appeared in countless film clips, and played thousands of gigs, honing his craft in a wide range of musical settings.

Currently, Adam is the drummer for popular cover band Good Faces For Radio, continuing to bring energy, experience, and passion to every stage he steps onto.

Matt Crute

Matt has been drumming for 30 years and teaching for eight. He spent his 20's and 30's living the "rockstar life", touring and recording with Full Scale and the Tim McMillan Band. His busiest time was with his band Full Scale, who began in Perth, then moved to Melbourne in 2001. After hundreds of shows around Australia, and U.S. showcase gigs at Whisky A-Go-Go and the Viper Room, Full Scale signed a major label deal with Columbia Records and moved to LA.

During Full Scale's five year run, they were fortunate enough to play the Big Day Out and tour with Evanescence, Sevendust, Hed(PE), Candlebox, Finger Eleven, Karnivool, Cog, The Butterfly Effect and Sunk Loto.

Matt currently plays drums for cover band The Unheard and gets so much joy out of teaching drums for a living and seeing his students improve their skills. A father of two boys aged 7 and 9, his drum teaching side project has evolved into running Crutopia Music.

"It's so awesome seeing a student's face light-up when they start playing a new beat, especially when it seemed so impossible to them a few minutes before. Those moments are the reason I teach drums."

Ryan Wood

Ryan is an accomplished drummer with over 30 years of playing, recording, and live performance experience. Originally from the UK, he built a strong career as a session and performing drummer, achieving his greatest success with indie band The Feens. The band released multiple singles and EPs, played national UK festivals, and appeared on television and radio, while supporting acts such as The Kooks, Cast, James, The Ks, and Red Rum Club.

Ryan relocated to Australia in 2024 and is currently involved in local music projects. Influenced by progressive and modern drummers including Danny Carey, Matt Halpern, II, and Steven Judd, he brings a broad, contemporary approach to his playing and teaching. Ryan is passionate about passing on his experience, creativity, and love of drumming to the next generation of players.

Tom Nunan

Tom has been playing drums for 25 years and counting and started playing when he was just 8 years old. He began performing in groups with his dad's music friends from the age of 12 and never looked back.

Tom lives and breathes drums and spends most weekends writing music with his bands, performing live, filming music videos and wowing audiences with his hard-hitting drumming style. No stranger to hard work, Tom currently drums for not one, not two, but three original bands:

Spacegoat (Alt Metal)
Toxicon (Metal)
Mistaking Solitude (Alt Rock)
Geelong Music Community Collective (Charity Covers Group).

“I love being able to share my obsession for drums with new people. Watching my students discover drumming as a concept has been so rewarding and I hope I can spread the same enthusiasm to a new generation of music lovers”

”Engaging lessons with everything I needed to know as a beginning drummer.”

- Teneile T.

”Matt is an awesome teacher who knows how to make a lesson interesting and engaging. The best part is he can teach you a drum cover for any song, which makes lessons so much fun. I would definitely recommend Matt!”

- Hanz S.

“I’m 58 and I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the drums, but needed some help getting started. Matt’s love for teaching others how to drum comes out in every lesson. I’m just getting started but Matt’s enthusiasm inspires me to keep going.“

- John A.
